A Hand Drawn Creative exclusive exhibition to celebrate the bygone entertainment venues of Seacliff Road
A few years ago I remember creating an imagined poster design celebrating our town’s old 80s roller-rink BJ’s on Oceanside. I had a few blurry, nostalgic childhood memories of the place, so I thought I’d create my own print to see if it poked other peoples’ memories too. Sure enough – the emails started rolling in “I loved that place – this takes me right back!”
Fast forward to today and Kings Church now stands where the roller disco once was. Following a building refurbishment, the communications team are keen to address and celebrate the history of the site. It turns out this corner of Bangor’s Seacliff Road has also been home to Milano’s Dancehall (1960s), Astor cinema (1950s), Flamingo Ballroom (1940s) Music Box Variety Theatre (1930s) and Nardini’s / Marble Hall Café (1920s).
Amy from Kings Church approached us with an interesting proposal in late 2025 after spotting our BJs in Wallhangers Gallery. “How about we create a permanent exhibition of Hand Drawn Creative poster designs celebrating the different establishments that have stood in this spot” And sure enough – that’s just what we’ve done. All the prints are now framed and hanging in the new King’s Church café, facing the shores of Belfast Lough, next door to the Jamaica Inn on Seacliff Road, right here in Bangor.
