I'll just say it. 2025 was a really odd year. Generative AI had everyone in the creative industries nervous as to what the future of design & illustration might look like. And an unusually quiet summer got me thinking about where my own career was heading. I'm getting greyer by the day, so maybe it's time to evaluate where I am and where I'm going? I applied for a few job interviews in Belfast that really didn't excite me – I still wanted to run my own business, but is there more I could be doing ? Then I noticed our local College SERC was recruiting part-time lecturers. Now this was interesting. Someone with my experience could maybe help and inspire a new generation of creatives? Fast forward to January 2026 and here I am with an ID staff laminate, learning how to be an Educator, whilst keeping HDC running too! It's been a real adventure so far. The college is only a few minutes walk from home and the tutors, lecturers and students have been very welcoming too. There is still so much to learn, but lecturing is something I'm definitely enjoying.
